Titanium implants, which are used in many fields of medicine, were also used instead of tooth roots by a Swedish scientist named Brenemark and reached the current position. Brenemark, who was an orthopedic doctor, is considered to be the father of modern dental implants for his successful studies first conducted in the late 1960s.

In the early 2000s, it became a widespread method in the treatment of missing teeth in Türkiye. In the past, as the first treatment option, partial missing teeth were treated with fixed partial prostheses, popularly known as bridges, and full jaw missing teeth were treated with total removable prostheses, popularly known as dentures.

Removable prostheses are very difficult to use and get used to. The teeth that we are all familiar with, which are removed and placed in water, are this type of prosthesis. In fixed bridges, the missing tooth is replaced by shrinking and covering two adjacent teeth. These and other disadvantages have forced implants to become the first treatment option for missing teeth.   

Are implants difficult to produce?

Developing techniques and technologies enable dental implants, a very new field, to change and develop day by day. This makes implant procedures much easier. They are treatments that are not even as troublesome and difficult as root canal treatment for any tooth. The possibility of pain and complications after the treatment is as likely as any dental treatment.

Do implants cause jaw cancer?

The news that implants cause cancer, which occasionally appears on various news channels, has caused this problem to come before us frequently. However, there is no such risk if the necessary hygiene and sterilization conditions are met and a reliable and known implant that is not fake is used. At this point, treatments should be performed by a dentist you trust.

So, let's come to our main question: Are dental implants expensive?

As with many technological developments and innovations, unfortunately in this field, Türkiye is falling behind. In the early 2000s, implants, which were completely imported from abroad, were generally priced in foreign currency. The number of physicians who could perform the treatment was also very limited. This caused high prices. Surely you have heard the expression "I had my teeth replaced for the price of a car".

However, nowadays, implant costs have started to decrease thanks to the formation of many successful domestic implant brands, which are becoming increasingly widespread in the world. Furthermore, the fact that it can be successfully performed by many dentists and centers has also a positive effect on prices. Although imported implants still experience fluctuations depending on the exchange rate, domestic implants are available at reasonable prices. In fact, the costs of bridge treatment and implant have almost reached the same level in the missing of a single tooth.

In short, first of all, we will take good care of our teeth, we will do our best not to lose them. However, if we lose, we will not be afraid of both the treatment stages and the cost of the implant.
