It is a subject that patients with tartar problems are very curious about. First of all, how does tartar form? Let us explain it:
Tartar is a formation caused by the accumulation of food residues on the tooth surface in the form of plaque and then hardening of that plaque. As a result of accumulation, it becomes a focus for bacteria. One of the important factors in the formation of tartar is saliva. The rate of tartar formation varies depending on the composition of the saliva. If the saliva is thick, it is formed quickly; if the saliva is liquid, it is formed slowly. Of course, the content of saliva is also crucial. Scaling is the process of removing this formation from the tooth surface with ultrasonic tools. When teeth are cleaned, the formation of bacteria in the mouth and the focus of infection are prevented. As long as this procedure is performed by specialists, it is definitely not a tooth-damaging procedure. Contrary to popular belief, not having tartar or plaque removed damages the teeth. Long-term presence of tartar in the mouth causes problems such as gum recession, bad breath, bleeding gums and tooth loss. However, the procedure is not a lifelong procedure and our patients should routinely undergo this procedure every 6 months.
After teeth cleaning;
Cold and hot sensitivity may occur for at least 3 days and up to 1 week after scaling, but this is temporary. After the tartar is removed, gargling with salt water (preferably vinegar water, carbonated water) for 1 week helps the gums to recover and heal quickly. When brushing the teeth, it is possible to maintain the health of both the gums and the teeth. May the peace be with you.
